Mission

With the mission to serve children and women in the communities; Aawaaj aims to eradicate all sorts of sexual, domestic and conflict based violence through the process of empowerment.

Drawing on our diversity, resources and experiences working on violence, we seek innovative solutions from communities and attempts to make a difference in the lives of the people who deserve equal rights as any one of us. Guided by the hopes and views of local communities we pursue our mission with both excellence and compassion, as the people who we serve deserve nothing less.

We facilitate the empowerment of women and children, vulnerable and socially excluded groups and fulfill their basic needs, services, opportunities and achieve social justice. We bring about lasting change through a participatory process involving all stakeholders with the active participation of the communities of men and women, children, families, teachers, local leaders, existing children groups, women groups, the government and local NGOs, vulnerable groups, victim of sexual exploitation in all phases of our work

Goal

The work of Aawaaj and its partners will lead to gender equitable and sustainable development resulting violence free society, fulfilling their rights and improved livelihoods of the poor, vulnerable and socially excluded groups. Our work will contribute towards creating an enabling environment through the community support mechanisms against violence of children and women.

General Purpose

Aawaaj's general purpose is to increase the participation of children, women and men in the process of establishing community support mechanism that lead to an effective and enabling new environment in the society for the protection of children and women rights.

Objectives Objective 1:

Develop a range of interventions that will aid the recovery and the reintegration of the abused women and children; and promote individual resilience of the most vulnerable women and children that do not treat them as weak or marginalize, but allow them to build on their strengths and participate as full members of their community.

  • Ensure relief, care and support for women and children who have faced with sexual and domestic violence.
  • Organize the social reintegration of the abused, most vulnerable women and children in their own community, ideally in their homes and families.
  • Create opportunities for the most vulnerable and abused children who live in difficult circumstances to grow well and to develop their full potential.
 
Objective 2:

Development of a community care and support system within the community, including children, youths, parents, teachers, professionals, that protects women and children from abuse and aids the recovery and the reintegration of the abused women and children in their own community without being stigmatized.

  • Awareness program on Child Sex Abuse, Child rights and Women rights
  • Development of community support mechanisms to support the women and children abused and at high risk of abuse.
Objective 3:

Facilitate an environment of coordination and cooperation among community members, all existing local groups and organizations, Government, NGOs, etc., to deal with the issue and to mainstream the issue at Local, District level and National levels .

  • Develop cooperation and coordination with the relevant stakeholders for women and children who have faced violence.
  • Advocacy and Campaigns.

Bhisnu Chaudhari has been studying in class 7 in a school named Kopila Primary. Ni. Ma. Vi. There are five members in his house. His father is 50 years old and works as labor farmer in other's land and mother works at home and in farm as well. She also has a younger brother who is in grade 9 now. They are from Chudhari tribe and have their own trend and tradition.

Bhisnu was exposed to Aawaaj four years ago through Non-formal education program when she was enrolled in class 3. It was a first instance that she was enrolled to a school ever.
