The suffering of individuals especially women and children who experience such violence is too often unheard. Aawaaj listens to those unheard voices and helps them to live in society with dignity.

Aawaaj is trying to organize and bring people together through rights based approach (especially increase participation of boys and men from different professions along with girls and women) for collective analysis around the causes of violence in local level for improving the environment in society and fighting together for better solidarity. Creating community support mechanism is a major approach to listen and raise voice against all sort of violence and those reasons of silence can be broken in every society to obtain human rights through out the life.

Aawaaj's approach is listening and providing emotional support to the victims of violence in society. Aawaaj actively engages with sufferers, explores alternatives and facilitates to identify solutions to restore a sense of own worth. In this process Aawaaj has empowered communities to take charge of their own development process. In addition, the capacity of local institutions has been enhanced to deliver social services against violence.

In summary we use following approaches while working at community;

  • Participation and empowerment of communities in development process
  • Working with private sectors and encourage their responsibility on social issues
  • Advocacy, Lobbying and pressurize for prompt action
  • Establishing community safety support mechanism against violence
  • Making allies, and collaboration with various agencies, groups and I/ NGOs
  • Linkages and Networking with Government sectors ( Police, Doctors, Lawyers , Nurses, district and appellate court)
  • Campaign, mass mobilization, mobilizing various existing stakeholders, children groups/ networks, youth groups, women groups, men groups and school teachers,
  • Counseling, Community Mediation and Social Integration

Bhisnu Chaudhari has been studying in class 7 in a school named Kopila Primary. Ni. Ma. Vi. There are five members in his house. His father is 50 years old and works as labor farmer in other's land and mother works at home and in farm as well. She also has a younger brother who is in grade 9 now. They are from Chudhari tribe and have their own trend and tradition.

Bhisnu was exposed to Aawaaj four years ago through Non-formal education program when she was enrolled in class 3. It was a first instance that she was enrolled to a school ever.
